...but her rear brake parts still aren’t here yet.
Snow’s continuing to tomorrow till 12PM.
[UPDATE 7am] Really should applaud City of Markham, roads were pretty much clear by the morning, even my side streets. No powerslides... drats. On the other hand, City of Toronto’s artery streets are all still covered and look like shit. Good luck with your commute this morning, everyone.

Do it! Brakes are overrated. Just throttle through!

I’m living in Toronto (until next week) and last lived in Montreal. I can’t believe how the city handles snow, it’s an embarrassment to Canada.
I haven’t seen a single plow or salt truck and many of the major routes near my home showed it. In Montreal they’re on it and plowing/salting heavily throughout the snowfall to keep the commute easy.

Who needs brakes? All they do is slow you down.

Well they are refraining from calling in the Army for now. That probably explains it.

I think you are supposed to take 2-3 days off work when it snows in Toronto. Right?

I get that feeling too. Honestly, it feels like I’m back in Vancouver where no one has snow tires and knows how to drive in snow. I noticed as soon as it snows or even rains here, everyone rushes home and doesn’t go back out. Great if you want a quiet mall visit, or restaurant night out but very bizarre.

Thought about parking lot shenanigans with the MX-5, but the region has already salted/plowed! (Durham is pretty good about snow removal usually). I don’t want to expose it to the salt and brine.
Thank god I don’t have to drive downtown today.

I really thought you were overlooking a rink there.
...appears I have hockey on the brain...

ftfy.
In all seriousness though, Toronto really has no idea what to do with snow.
They’ll salt for no apparent reason (snow is predicted next week), won’t salt when they need to (wet, icing conditions), will salt when it will actually make it worse (extreme low temps, all it does is turn snow that actually provides traction into sheer ice), and have an aversion to ploughing because reasons. Probably something to do with how the government likes to reduce the budget on certain things if it wasn’t needed the year before... like salt.
What’s so hard to understand. Salt can be used on its own for light dustings, brine spray for prevention of icing conditions at any time on the highway, for heavy snow you PLOUGH FIRST THEN SALT, and never put salt down early as a prevention measure when a storm is predicted. All it does is create slush under the snow. Clean snow provides far better traction.
But hey, what do I know, I only see what they do and then drive in it.

Skating rink? That is one next to the merry-go-round. They just opened it a day ago. A tiny one though.

Didn’t even notice it. I was looking at the merry-go-round. Couldn’t figure out what it was. Looked kinda like a rink to me in the thumbnail.
So, I’m still wrong.

Sadly so true. Montreal pays high taxes but they have the best snow removal service I’ve ever seen. Toronto should reach out and ask for help on how to improve their snow removal and start by mandating winter tires!
